In 2021 I lived in the Alkimia Yoga Community in the Coromandel and I had the pleasure of communicating with Mia, their resident Emu!
The owner of Alkimia, Catia, asked me to find out if Mia was happy in her home here or whether she would prefer to be moved to another home where she could live with other animals, as some guests had expressed concern that Mia looked lonely.
When I approached Mia and requested to have a conversation with her, she was initially reluctant and expressed her mistrust of humans. I told her that people were worried about her and that suggestions had been made to move her to a new home, and she immediately expressed her anxiety to me about that, and said she had fears of being moved.
As it turns out Alkimia used to be an emu farm, and Mia’s male companion had died during an attempt to relocate him, which Mia had witnessed, and this had created anxiety for her around being moved. She also shared that she held a lot of grief in her heart around the loss of her babies which had been killed for meat.
She told me that her life had been challenging, and now that she is in her later years of life, she has no desire to be moved and she would prefer to live out her final years at Alkimia in peace. I asked her if she would like to have another animal in her enclosure, and she told me that it would be a disruption to her and the routine that she had developed for herself. She gave me the image of a little old lady who was very set in her ways.
I offered Angelic Reiki to Mia which she was very open to receive and I assisted her in releasing the grief in her heart connected with the death of her family. I asked her if there was anything that she required and she said that she would love to be kept in the loop about what was happening on the land, as she feels very connected to this place, and she is also open to more human contact. She told me that she enjoys fruit and vegetables and would appreciate more of it in her diet, but in general she is at peace here and would like to remain here until she chooses to pass away.
The volunteer who was feeding Mia daily was also due to be leaving a couple of days after the communication took place, and Mia expressed her deep gratitude for him, and said they had been helping one another to develop trust and open their hearts, but now their time together was complete. Once he left I took on the responsibility of feeding Mia everyday, and I thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with her while I lived at Alkimia.
